On Wednesday, we celebrated "Read Across America Day" at FWS.  It was a day filled with reading, guest readers and fun activities for second graders.

CARES ASSEMBLY/ LEAP DAY
The entire school gathered together and cheered on our fellow classmates and school.  Many students were recognized for showing compassion and accomplishments over that past few months. We had so much fun watching leap day activity!

Persuasive Letters- Longer Recess

Over the past few weeks we have been working on Opinion Writing in ELA.  Our class had a great debate about having a longer recess in school.   We noticed that good writers use words to signal that they are sharing their own thoughts.  We know it is important to give reasons to support our opinion and it will get our readers to feel a certain way or change their thinking.    Our class came up with some great reasons for and against longer recess.  Last week, we had the Wee Deliver Program happening in our school.  We decided to write Mrs. McDonald a persuasive letter and include our ideas. We couldn't wait to see what she decided!

Today, Mrs. McDonald stopped by our class to share her thoughts on longer recess time.  Again, our class had some great reasons for and against recess being longer.  Mrs. McDonald reminded us that we all can make a difference when we share our opinions.  Our letters made her aware of why extra recess would be a great idea.  We also had a few strong opinions that made us aware of some negative aspects of a longer recess.   Great arguments and points made this morning.

American Bullfrog

We welcomed a new friend to our class last week.   Meet "Milo"--an American Bullfrog.  He is visiting  from the Burlington Science Center for a few weeks while we learn about amphibians. Here is a picture of us watching Milo have some lunch before we headed home for the day!

Landform

Landform research in room 212.  We have been hard at work researching many different landforms.  There are so many different ways to find out about them.  Our class is working with partners to determine some important facts to include in our class Landform Book.   Today we were "Adding to the Words" and finding some "Awesome Adjectives" to extend our sentences.
